What are the biggest highlights of your career?
Once I had finished my training—of which several courses were with QC Design School—and I had started promoting my business, my very first job was to do a Feng Shui consultation for a 40-room hotel. I was nervous and excited at the same time. I sent email to Alex Myers, the School director, who gave me some guidance on this first big job and I went in full of confidence and made my client very happy. My next big highlight was, of course, to be asked to become a workshop teacher and tutor for the School.
What inspired you to pursue a career in design?
I have wanted to be an interior decorator since I was in public school. However, my mother told me to get a "real job”. I was unable to get it out of my system over the years and QC Design School made it so easy with their distance education courses and workshops. I have not looked back since.
What is your favorite part of being a tutor at QC Career School?
I love the enthusiasm of the students and hearing their success stories.
What is your best advice for new students pursuing a career in the design industry?
Put all your energy into the course and read as much additional material as you can get your hands on. Practice for friends or family whenever you get a chance and show them your enthusiasm. If necessary, get help with your promotional materials and if a full career switch is too big a jump, then start out part time and let it evolve.
