And when it comes to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.qcdesignschool.com\/online-courses\/home-staging\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">staging homes<\/a>, there\u2019s nothing more important than curb appeal. After all, it\u2019s the first impression buyers get from a home!\n\nSo what are the easiest ways to ruin your client\u2019s sale? By destroying curb appeal, of course.\n\nIf you want to bring in bids for your home staging clients, avoid these 8 ways to shatter curb appeal!\n<h3>1. Color Clashing<\/h3>\nSurprise, surprise \u2013 color clashing is first on our list! And yes, we\u2019re also talking about complementary colors.\n\nNot that complementary colors are&nbsp;<em>bad&nbsp;<\/em>per se, but when you\u2019re staging a home for sale you want to keep colors understated. Too many bright or strong colors can be jarring to potential buyers. If you\u2019re trying to add a little color to the exterior,&nbsp;<a href=\"\/2015\/07\/color-theory-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">use varying tints and hues of the same color family<\/a>.\n\nLimiting bright colors to specific areas, like window shutters and doors, will make the whole house pop without overwhelming your buyers.\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3129 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Exterior-home-painting.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior paint colors for home stagers\">\n<h3>2. Weather Stains<\/h3>\nA big no-no for home stagers is leaving weather stains on the outside of a home. It gives off the impression that the house hasn\u2019t been well-cared for over the years (on the outside, at least!).\n\nWe know that it\u2019s not easy to remove weather stains, but people will be able to tell if you at least&nbsp;<em>tried<\/em>. Removing dirt and grime from the exterior of the house will make it look 10x better, even if there are a couple of stains left over. Just do your best!\n<h3>3. Cracked Paths<\/h3>\nNo, we don\u2019t mean sidewalks \u2013 you can\u2019t really help that! What you can do is fix up the path leading to the front door. If the first impression your buyers get is a wobbly, broken path, you won\u2019t be off to the best start!\n\nYou may need to get your hands dirty (or recruit a contractor), but it will go a long way in making the whole home feel welcoming and cared for. You don\u2019t need to splurge on new concrete either \u2013 basic blocks will do just fine.\n<h3>4. Desolate Lawns<\/h3>\nA clean, manicured lawn is what everyone thinks about when it comes to home staging \u2013 but that\u2019s not the only thing to consider! Some areas are more prone to drought and low water supply, and wasting water isn\u2019t taken lightly.\n\nYour location as a home stager will dictate how you go about fixing up your client\u2019s yard. If you\u2019re not able to bring the grass back to life easily, spend your time elsewhere. Clean up any weeds on the lawn,&nbsp;<a href=\"\/2017\/04\/diy-outdoor-decor-every-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">add outdoor d\u00e9cor<\/a>, or start building a garden.\n\nA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qcdesignschool.com\/2017\/05\/5-vital-tricks-learn-home-staging-courses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">garden<\/a> brings life to your client\u2019s home \u2013 literally. Planting an assortment of flowers is the best way to bring color to the front yard!\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3127 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Curb-appeal-for-home.jpg\" alt=\"Adding flowers for home curb appeal\">\n<h3>5. Jungle Fever<\/h3>\nOn the opposite side of a barren lawn, there\u2019s the other extreme: an extortionate amount of plants. Although some clients prefer their lawn to be a garden oasis, it can throw off potential buyers. They want to focus on the house instead of the plant life!\n\nBushes and plants will keep the front yard interesting. Just be careful not to overdo it! A couple of shrubs mixed with planted flowers is plenty for one home.\n<h3>6. Stubborn Steps<\/h3>\nA difficult problem to correct, but one that makes all the difference in a buyer\u2019s experience. Broken or invisible steps will throw off potential buyers. They\u2019re expecting a sturdy step, or no step at all \u2013 any deviation from these options can make them feel unstable.\n\nFix the porch steps, and if they are hard to see (or are different heights) add a color stripe to save your buyers from an embarrassing fall! Buyers are always on the lookout for things they\u2019ll need to fix, and this is one area that you can nix right away.\n<h3>7. Boring Porches<\/h3>\nIf your clients are lucky enough to have a porch, capitalize on this! Leaving the porch empty drains life from the entire home. Buyers should be able to picture themselves relaxing on the porch on a bright summer\u2019s day.\n\nClean up the whole area \u2013 wash the floor, paint it, and add outdoor furniture. Cleaning the inside and outside is super important to the look and feel of a home.\n\nThink about it this way: you have the windows open on a gorgeous day, but every window you open leaves dirt on your hands. Another thing to consider is the fact that if you don\u2019t clean the window screens, the dirt is being blown into your client\u2019s house!\n\nRemove the screens, rinse them down, and clean every window pane.
