What motivated you to start your career as a professional designer?
It began twenty years ago. I picked up an old and ugly oak round table from a garage sale. It was all scratched and dented, but I knew that I could turn it into a beauty. I had never done anything like this before, but knew I just had to figure it out. After envisioning what the table should look like, I headed to the store. I wasn't too sure, and was a little worried that this $10 table may end up costing me much more than its bargain price. I purchased sandpaper, walnut stain, and a small container of varathane. I worked on this table for two days and ended up with the most beautiful table that $10 could buy. Upon seeing the finished product, I knew that this was something that I wanted to pursue further.
What are some highlights of your career so far?
I'm very proud to say I was featured in Canadian House & Home Magazine as 1st Prize Winner.
How did your course prepare you for working in the field?
Taking QC Design School's Homestaging & Redesign course has given me the courage to acknowledge my strengths and say, “Yes, I am good at what I do.”
Do you have any advice for anyone starting out with their training or career?
You are capable of doing whatever your heart desires. Most people would never think that someone with a prosthetic leg could be capable of the design and repurposing work that I do. I know different, however.
