What are the biggest highlights of your career?

I try my very best at each and every project I do and I care deeply about every job I take on. When designing interiors, I always encourage my clients to feel part of the design process. I aim to offer a tailored experience to every client so they are left with a personalized home designed just for them. One of the benefits of this job is that no two days are ever the same. Every project is a challenge, is exciting and a wonderful chance for me to be creative. I find that each of these experiences have had and, will continue to have, an important role in highlighting my career.

What inspired you to pursue a career in interior decorating and home staging?

I was always a very creative child. I always enjoyed design and architecture. I remember as a young girl cutting magazine clippings of products or rooms that inspired me and bringing them all together to create complete homes. I guess you can say these were my very first presentation boards! I believe a passion for design is innate. I always knew I had it. I am a strong believer that you should always pursue your passion and the rest comes easy. Upon graduating from QC Design School, and having learned the fundamentals of design and the design process, I was better prepared to work with confidence in this field. I felt that I found a career that suited my skills and my energy. It was a natural fit for me.

What are your greatest achievements in the design field?

Every job is important to me and I am proud of them all no matter how big or small. I feel that as decorators, each job shapes us. Therefore, my greatest achievement would have to be taking the leap, pursing my passion and starting my own interior decorating business, Wish Décor. Over the past ten years my company has won numerous awards for both design and customer service and I have had the privilege of having two of my projects featured in Je Décor Magazine. I have been able to expand my company to offer home products that speak to my design sensibilities and also offer online design services to clients all over North America. My experiences through Wish Décor led to the wonderful tutoring opportunity with QC Design School. Now I’m able to help aspiring design students within this fascinating industry. It has been the best decision of my life!

What is your best advice for new students pursuing a career in the design industry?

Design is in the details. Good design is thoughtful, practical and original. It has to work and stand the test of time. Don't be afraid to be creative and bold. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. We all make them and they are the pathway to success. That said, always remember to be accountable and take responsibility for them. Treat your clients with respect and always act with their best interests in mind. They will appreciate you for this and your reputation depends on it. Finally, continue to learn as much as you can about design. Knowledge is power and it will give you the confidence you need for success in this industry.
