Your interior decorating and color consultant clients have their own unique style, design preferences and budgets. But not matter the client, one thing is constant—they want their bathroom spaces to inspire them. They want to walk in and feel relaxed, and leave feeling healthy and refreshed. The most inspired way to transform a bathroom? A color transformation!

Check out these 5 ways to add color and rejuvenate a stale bathroom!

1. Vanity

When you step into a beautiful bathroom, the first thing you notice is the vanity. It’s a necessary bathroom fixture that has a lot of design potential.

Painting a vanity is one of the fastest ways to add fresh color to a bathroom redesign. Paint the vanity a fresh color like coastal coral, navy blue or grassy green. If your client is more conservative, choose charcoal, taupe, light gray or a slate blue. No matter what, a color change on this focal point will dazzle your clients.

2. Tile to the Rescue

Who doesn’t love stepping into a gorgeous shower decorated with stunning tile that makes you feel like you’re at a luxurious spa? There are so many color and pattern options that will please any client’s decorating style.

Try solid turquoise or glossy sky blue tiles that evoke your client’s last tropical vacation. Or consider tiles with metallic accents in a herringbone pattern. You can also play with different tile shapes. Trendy options include deep teal octagon tiles or green subway tiles to make a beautiful color statement!

3. Don’t Forget The Doors

Sliders and barn doors continue to be popular, and bringing them into the bathroom will add a major wow factor to any design. Add a pop-of-color to the entry door. A bathroom linen closet door can also work well, and contains the bold color to just one room. A rustic or five-panel door painted in moody blue, smoky charcoal, soft pink or bright yellow will scream fun!

4. Accent Wall

Accent walls are a popular choice for clients who love color and funky patterns. Paint their favorite bold color on an accent wall over the sink or tub where it won’t overwhelm the overall space. An out-of-the-box option includes painting the ceiling a bold color and pairing it with a gorgeous light fixture. Don’t limit yourself to just paint. You can also try a gorgeous wallpaper pattern on one wall.

From bold florals to modern geometric patterns, it only takes a little to transform a space. This is also a great way to feature your client’s favorite design style, whether it’s tropical, vintage, modern or rustic. Powder rooms are also perfect for featuring your client’s favorite pattern or color.

5. Always Remember the Accessories

Accessories sometimes tend to get overlooked in favor of larger ticket items in a bathroom like the soaker tub, tile floors or custom vanity. But beautiful accessories are a necessary design element that will pull everything together to create a cohesive and balanced space. Without them, a room feels unfinished and impersonal.

Accessories don’t just refer to trios of artisan mason jars with bath salts and cotton swabs. No, here are a few ideas that can inject new energy to the bathroom:

  • A beautifully painted antique mirror
  • An inspired watercolor painting
  • Shiny brass sink fixtures
  • A vintage patterned rug
  • A sophisticated shower curtain
  • Live plants in a boldly colored pot
  • A light fixture painted in a unique color

Any of these additions will add color in just the right ways.

Bathroom color trends in the future

No matter your client’s budget, don’t neglect the bathroom! Changing the color of any design or decorative element in the bathroom and transform the space entirely.

Bathrooms will continue to see colorful elements of design shine through, even if current trendy colors continue to evolve.

As with any design project, balance is the name of the game. You should offset bold colors with white and other fresh neutrals to create a well-rounded space. You don’t want to have too many focal points—otherwise, the space will be too hectic and not relaxing!

As the Color Consultant course teaches, a combination of clearly defined focal points, familiar textures, and good lighting all come together to make the perfect design your clients will rave about! So be confident in showing your clients how color can help them love their homes even more.
